Miriam Ament, Founder & Executive Director Emeritus

Our founder, Miriam, is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University.  She was a recipient of the JCC PresenTense Chicago 2014 Fellowship and earned her Certificate in Jewish Leadership from Northwestern University and Spertus and is certified in Mental Health First Aid.  In 2020, she was selected by ICJA as one of their Alumni Who Inspire. Nearly 20 years ago, Miriam was hospitalized for depression and encountered stigma and isolation from many friends and family members who didn't have the emotional tools and practical knowledge base to deal with the illness. This was the impetus for her founding No Shame On U, dedicated to normalizing the mental health conversation and ending stigma. She lives in Chicago with her husband, musician David Forman.
